The varsity men's team went into Wakefield Country Day School on Tuesday to open their season against a program they had not beaten in over seven years. From an outside perspective, the goal was simply to close in from a 26 point defeat last year. But the guys did more than just compete with WCDS; the Pioneers controlled the game and were cruising to an easy first win of the season.  But foul trouble and WCDS shooting 16-18 from the free throw line, brought the game back to a tie after Fresta Valley had a 9 point lead in the 4th quarter. With starters, Brandon Worsham and Ben Freer fouling out in the fourth quarter; the bench really had to step up for some big minutes. FVC survived the overtime period due to two huge 3 point baskets. Sophomore, and Point Guard, Kevin Towery led the team with 13 points, followed by Andrew Lambdin with 7. Ben Freer controlled the boards all night with 11 rebounds. The team will be looking to improve this Thursday as they travel to Front Royal to face Chelsea Academy.
