WAKEFIELD COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL: 6
The Pioneers suffered their first loss of the season in an oversized matchup to Wakefield Country Day School. The Owls came out using their size and strength to 'out-muscle' the Pioneers at every position. Fresta Valley never showed any quit for the entire sixty minutes. The Pioneers only goal from the game came from 5th grade standout, Brooke Patten. "Brooke has really progressed with having never played soccer before. Her energy on the field and intensity certainly makes up for her youth," Coach Fries added, "As a team we have been talking about being in the right position on the field, and that if you hustle on the field, good things will happen for you. Brooke's goal came from exactly that type of effort." The goal came just before halftime on a through-ball to 8th grader, Hannah Mortvedt, who carried the ball inside the goal box. After a deflection by the goalkeeper, and the ball starting to trickle away and outside of goal, Brooke Patten came in to finish it. It made the score 3-1, WCDS, who went on to win the game.
The Pioneers next game will be Thursday, as they travel to Manassas to face Holy Family Academy for the second and final time this season.
