RAPPAHANNOCK COUNTY HS: 3
The Pioneers were edged out on the scoreboard Monday night at Rappahannock County High School, although FVC controlled most of the game. RCMS came out fast and aggressive, outshooting the Pioneers in the first half 7-1. On the several shots taken by RCMS, two of them were put in to make the score at halftime, 2-0. The Pioneers did not let up in effort or hustle, and they started to have much success on the field. A lot of the team's success was due to Sweeper, Brooke Worsham, Left Defender, Theresa Stanley, and Left Striker, Lexi Lam; all who played their best game of the season. Maddie Lam controlled the center of the field for most of the game, it was really the only counter that FVC had to keep the Panthers(RCMS) away from their goal. Maddie Lam came through in the 54th minute taking the ball down the field, beating three defenders, and firing a shot that was unstoppable. The final score of the match was 1-3. Coach Fries commented, "We have been playing better each game this season, and that is something I know the team is encouraged about. With a little more time playing together, and building more team chemistry, these scores will start being in our favor." The Pioneers next game will be on Tuesday (3/31) as they travel to Front Royal to face Chelsea Academy at 4:15pm.
