SHENANDOAH VALLEY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY: 3
The Lady Pioneers came out from their Easter Break with one of the teams best performances of the season vs SVCA. FVC came out with great play in all aspects of the game. The intensity and energy is unquestionable with this team; and in their match today, they added great communication and winning several loose balls. Fresta Valley's defense continued to perform at a high level, taking the ball possession away SVCA and countering attacks on offense. The team attempted many counter attacks,by midfield performers: Brooke Patten, Lexi Lam, Hannah Mortvedt, and Maddie Lam. But the passes could not connect for a good run toward the goal. "Our midfielder's really stepped up today, they needed to with us not having Brooke Worsham." Brooke W. goes quietly throughout each game, some people may say they hardly notice her on the field. Coach Fries could not disagree more. "Brooke Worsham is our last line of defense. As good as our outside defenders (Theresa Stanley, Jada Dudley, Savannah Holmes) are, they make mistakes, and Brooke is the one that backs them up, and keeps making the rest of the team look so good." Savannah Holmes stepped up her game in absence of Brooke W. and really is earning a title as one of the best defenders in the conference. SVCA managed to get a lucky one midway through the second half, and Coach Fries decided to gamble for a goal. Moving defenders up the field, SVCA poked two late goals in the game, to make the final score 3-0, SVCA. The reason Coach Fries was so enthused with the result was due to the fact they were playing a much older, and well-coached team by Dustin Wheelock. "Dustin is one of the best soccer coaches I have met. His players have great awareness, and play very smart on the field. Besides that, I am so impressed to see our 5th and 6th grade girls go up against many 8th grade girls and high school girls today. The future is very promising for girls soccer at Fresta Valley." Did we forget to mention that the girls were playing a JV team.
