RAPPAHANNOCK COUNTY HS: 2
Fresta Valley came up short one goal against VMSC opponent Rappahannock County Middle School. The intensity and competition was even throughout the entire game. "It seemed that both teams were well balanced in their attacks and defense. I thought both teams did a great job transitioning from defense to offense." Coach Fries stated. Trailing 1-0, Fresta Valley received a free kick just outside the eighteen yard box. Maddie Lam put a terrific strike on the ball, placing it just over the keepers hands and into the back of the net. The game was even after one half. The Pioneers could not strike gold a second time in the game, being shutdown by the Panther defense for the final 30 minutes. RCMS to the lead again and never gave it back midway through the 2nd half on a great pass and quick shot to beat the fierce, Fresta defense. The Pioneers have had better results each time they face an opponent for a second time, Coach Fries hopes to face RCMS for a third.
If the Pioneers want to play the Panthers one more time, it would be for the VMSC Final on Thursday in Rappahannock County @ 6pm. To get there, they will have to go through a Wakefield Country Day School that has already beaten the Pioneers twice this season. "We may have not been on the winning side in the scorebox each game, but we have certainly stepped up and played just as well as these other teams. We are just as good as them, we just need to show that on the scoreboard next time." Coach Fries remarks about their talented conference opponents (WCDS and RCMS). The Pioneers next match will be against WCDS in the Valley Middle School Conference semifinal game @ WCDS, Flint Hill, @ 3:30pm.
